STS-Hub.de – German STS Hubs

What is the STS-Hub.de series?

STS-Hub.de is a bi-annual, decentralised platform for Science and Technology Studies (STS) within the German academic landscape. Founded in 2023, the series brings together established and emerging STS networks, associations and individual scholars, fostering an inclusive, open space for exchange without requiring alignment to a single organisation. By moving between locations, each hub event showcases the diversity and vitality of STS research in Germany.

Background and History

The STS-Hub.de series was established to address the need for a regional forum for German-affiliated scholars in Science and Technology Studies. While international platforms such as EASST and 4S facilitate broader earthly exchange, STS-Hub.de was envisioned as a decentral, inclusive conference enabling individual identities and networks to flourish within the German context, without the need for a unifying organisation. The initiative benefits from the symbolic support of academic associations including stsing, GWTF, the DGS Sektion Wissenschafts- und Technikforschung, the AK Politik, Wissenschaft und Technik in the DVPW, and INSIST.

Since its inaugural event in Aachen (2023), STS-Hub.de has connected a wide range of scholars, associations and research groups, providing space for dialogue and collaboration. Each event is hosted in a different German city, highlighting local STS communities and perspectives, while maintaining openness, flexibility and collective authorship for the ongoing development of STS in Germany.
